Muhammad: Prophet of God (Daniel C. Peterson, 2007)

With an estimated 6+ million Muslims living in the U.S.—a number that some dispute but that all agree is growing rapidly—it is essential that Christians be informed about Islam. Daniel Peterson, who teaches Islamic studies and Arabic at Brigham Young University, provides a very readable yet scholarly history of Muhammad and the beginnings of Islam. The Prophet’s life and sayings are as important to Islam as is the record of the revelations which came to him via the angel Gabriel, as recorded in the Qur’an. Neither a polemic nor an apologetic, Muhammad is an even-handed, irenic introduction to a man who changed history, and whose followers are our neighbors.
