Ransom Fellowship was founded by Denis and Margie Haack in 1981.
Together, they have created a ministry that includes lecturing, writing, teaching, feeding, and encouraging the multitudes

Denis Haack
Principal/Director
Denis is the author of The Rest of Success: What the World Didn’t Tell You About Having It All and has written articles for such journals as: Reformation & Revival Journal; Eternity; Covenant; and, World.
He holds a Master of Arts in Theological Studies degree from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis. His undergraduate studies were done at the University of Minnesota and University of New Mexico.
After a few years of living in a Christian commune (yes, that’s right, they were hippies), he staffed a church as a youth pastor and was recruited by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship where he eventually became area director of New Mexico, Arizona, and part of Texas. To support himself and his family, he did everything from pumping gas to delivering flowers to starting a janitorial business that didn’t boom until he gave the business to a friend who took the idea and ran with it.
Before he and Margie owned a home, he always declared that their lawn would be made of rocks so he wouldn’t have to mow, but he’s now the proud owner of a self-propelled Honda lawnmower which he also uses to mulch every leaf that blows into the yard.

Margie Haack
Principal
Author of Notes from Toad Hall, Margie has been a featured speaker at various conferences and retreats on topics ranging from Providence of God in suffering and the enigmatic words of Jesus, to the cultural significance of tattooing and the challenge of being faithful in everyday life.
She was a columnist for World for years and is currently working on her childhood memoir (when she rewrites yet again and finds a publisher you'll be the first to know). She grew up in Northern Minnesota on a farm and attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in pre-med.
She’s now grateful she didn’t pursue medicine because she is more interested in and much more skilled at the art of writing and hospitality which involves but isn’t limited to cooking amazing meals, painting every room a different vibrant color, and gathering pieces of eclectic furniture that make even the most uptight feel right at home.
Some would say her artistic skills in hospitality border on genius, but she would protest, citing as evidence the fact that she regularly kills her house plants. Her favorite hobby is collecting mushrooms and guessing which ones would kill her if she ate them. And now, for all you yearning to know more, here’s an interview of Margie by Margie. |

There are tulips on my desk, and I saw my first robin yesterday, clear signals that winter is losing its grip on the landscape. The newspaper reported an ice jam on a nearby river that forced the closure of several roads. Chunks of ice the size of dinner tables slammed through a county park. Even something as glorious of the arrival of spring is never as perfectly smooth as we would hope in this broken world. We are, as my spiritual mentor used to say, glorious ruins.
Finding what it means to flourish as broken human being in an imperfect world is what Ransom is about. We believe in Jesus Christ, though often find ourselves dismayed at what passes for Christianity in our postmodern world. We hope what you find on this site will be helpful in your own pilgrimage, regardless of where you happen to find yourself at the moment.
