BY: Denis Haack
It is generally assumed that Gen-Xers are relativistic, and that Rent simply celebrates an easy-going relativism in lifestyle and sexuality. But the characters depicted in Rent, like the Gen-Xers they represent, hold strong moral notions.

spacer It's interesting to track regional tastes and idiosyncrasies. This winter as the East Coast has been hammered by storms, my fellow Minnesotans have complained about our lack of snow. Like them I figure that if we have to endure frigid temperatures we might as well be able to enjoy the satisfaction of firing up the snow blower.

Wherever we live, however, we hear rumors of wars and disease, and find ourselves wondering about the perennial questions of the human condition. We yearn for meaning and significance, but find the quest too disappointing to stop drowning out our questions with busyness or entertainment or some form of self-medication.

Ransom exists to be a safe place to explore such things. We hope you find our reflections helpful. Thanks for visiting.
