Expecting Adam: A True Story of Birth, Rebirth, and Everyday Magic (Martha Beck, 2000) spacer Expecting Adam: A True Story of Birth, Rebirth, and Everyday Magic (Martha Beck, 2000)
BY: Aaron Sands
I admit I did not have high expectations for a book about a child born with Down’s syndrome into a Harvard family, but I was intrigued by the broader scope regarding a family that has its world turned upside-down, about the way real life events shape our view of the world more than the highest acclaimed education.

Experimentation, Failure and Faith spacer Experimentation, Failure and Faith
BY: Denis Haack
Maybe graduate school was intended to teach us perseverance, and our true calling is something altogether different. Perhaps our gifts don’t translate directly into a marketable skill, so we’ll need to try some things before we find what we’re meant to do now.

Faster spacer Faster
BY: Margie Haack
Although I'm convinced most of us travel too fast for our own good, and need to join me in a little ranting about the speed of life, I have reason to notice it more because I have less choice about my speed. It is slower and slower.

spacer One of the blind spots I find difficult to erase is the belief that because something seems true to me, it should seem true to you.

I think this arrogant error may be at the root of a great deal of incivility and division. It breeds impatience in my soul, shrill rhetoric in discussions, and an unwillingness to engage in the unhurried reflection and conversation that is required in a legitimate search for truth.

This web site represents our attempt to slow down, think, listen, and speak in a way that assumes we are all creatures of great dignity and value as persons made in God's image. We hope you join the conversation.
